The Medstar Diabetes Institute is an American Diabetes Association recognized diabetes education program. Clients meet with a certified diabetes educator and a registered, licensed dietitian. Training is available for Animas and Medtronic pumps. All insurances are accepted. A physician order is required. Our facility is handicapped accessible and parking is free.

We offer comprehensive diabetes education, counseling, classes and support groups. Our Program is recongized by the American Diabetes Association

An Adult Physician Practice that will evaluate, treat, and educate patients with gestational diabetes, type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. Group classes offered for type 2 diabetes. Individual counseling as needed. We accept all insurance including Medicare, Medicaid. Patient co-pay dependent on their insurance. Hours of operation 8:30-5:00 PM. to make an appontment call 202-741-3333. The following services require a written physician order:

1. Healthy Steps Diabetes Education

2. Gestational Diabetes-Evaluation and treatment

3. Insulin pump therapy

4. Continuous glucose monitoring

Howard University Hospital Diabetes Self-Management Program

American Diabetes Association recognized program for meeting the national standards for diabetes education

The program is taught by a registered dietitian and registered nurse who are Certified Diabetes Educators. Patients will enhance their knowledge on proper food selection and improved diabetes self-management skills Patients of all ages with either type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes may be referred. Group diabetes education classes are held once a month from Tuesday - Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm. Individual diabetes education and medical nutrition therapy for diabetes are held Monday - Thursday from 9 am - 4pm. Referrals are required from a healthcare provider. Most insurances are accepted and cover the cost of this service. Please call to make an appointment.

Board certified endocrinologists, pediatric endocrinologist, podiatrist and pharmacist are available for consultation and ongoing management of diabetic patients

Expertise in diabetes management is available through highly trained health professionals in one location. Both adult and pediatric diabetic patients with either type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes may be referred for evaluation and treatment on Monday- Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm. Pharmacy counseling for medication reconcilliation is available on Monday and Tuesday from 9 am - 12 pm. Podiatry services are available on Wednesday from 9 am - 12 pm. Referrals are required. Most insurances are accepted and cover the cost of this service. Please call to make an appointment.
