The Diabetes Education Department provides special education by certified educators about self-management of this disease. Physician referral is required and insurance coverage varies. Programs offered: The Best Diabetes Care is Self-Care and The Diabetes Basics Series is designed to give you the self-management tools you need to avoid serious but preventable complications of diabetes.

For conditions that services are not available, the staff works cooperatively with Seattle Children's Hospital to bring specialists to our Alaskan families. Families who need to be seen by the Seattle specialists can schedule appointments for evaluation, assessments, and treatment recommendations through the Pediatric Sub-Specialty Clinic.

Norton Sound Health Corporation offers a Diabetes Education program. The intent of this program is to empower communities to develop culturally sensitive programs promoting healthy lifestyles to prevent chronic illness and to personally empower individuals to take ownership of their healthcare through family and community based support to improve the quality of life for people with chronic illnesses. Services offered include diabetes case management, diabetes prevention, and health promotion. Staff includes nurse case manager, registered dietitians, director, data coordinator, and secretary. Not only is diabetes management available for support and direction, CAMP staff also provide programs and activities for prevention purposes including individual screening and counseling, community presentations, physical fitness activities, mini grants for villages, tobacco cessation and more. CAMP operates under three grants: the non-competitive SDPI grant, the DPP grant, and the HP/DP grant.
