The National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Kitchen is a resource for people with chronic kidney disease at any stage. Understanding how nutrition can affect the health of kidney patients is critical. Kidney health care professionals help by providing important support and education about dietary requirements and modifications that could potentially slow the progression of kidney disease and improve overall health outcomes. Kidney Kitchen provides many delicious recipes for patients with diabetes or patients on dialysis. Other resources include *Spice Up Your Diet* a guide to avoiding salt without losing flavor and *Dining Out with Confidence* a guide to eating in restaurants with chronic kidney disease. Families in to Healthy Options (Fit-HOP)

Family fitness and nutrition program based on WE CAN and Media Smart Youth curricula. Classes are held at Friendship Public Charter School Collegiate Academy in NE, Washington DC

The Families Into Healthy Options (Fit-HOP) curriculum utilizes a variety of techniques to help children and their families increase physical activity and improve nutrition. The ultimate goal is to help families prevent and/or reduce obesity, and prevent and/or control type 2 diabetes and heart disease. The program meets the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) WE CAN program objectives of promoting heart healthy nutrition behaviors, increasing physical activity, and reducing screen time. Each series includes ten, 2-hour sessions held on consecutive Saturdays from 9:30-11:30 am. Program includes: family fitness activities, computer-based lessons, music, hip-hop dance, and more. Insurances accepted: Chartered Health Plan and Health Services for Children with Special Needs (HSCSN). Space is handicap accessible. Instructors include: registered nurses (BSN), health educators (CHES), registered dietician and certified fitness trainers.

Patients need prescriptions ordered for their medications, from their doctors, that can be filled at the Unity Health Care pharmacies. There are no charges or co-pays for your prescritions but you need to bring your Alliance insurance in order to get your prescritions filled.
