Diabetes education offered in group and individual classes in Fredericksburg and Stafford locations. Patients are seen Monday-Friday from 8:30-5pm. Evening hours are wednesday in fredericksburg and Thursdays in Stafford.

Diabetes Education

Centra Health's Diabetes program is designed to promote diabetes self-management. Patients need to provide a physician referral so we'll have information about their need.

We provide diabetes education to patients, family members and caretakers, and we offer inpatient as well as outpatient education. Through our program, people recently diagnosed with diabetes learn survival skills including:

- a basic intro to the disease process
- foot care eye and dental health
- meal planning and food label reading
- guidelines for sick day management
- medication information (oral or insulin)
- self-monitoring guidelines instructions on use of the glucose meter
- exercise to promote better control of the disease and improve well-being
- managing complications traveling skills
- intensive insulin management

The Lifestyle Balance Program is offered to those with a BMI of 24 or higher and you must either qualify based on the American Diabetes Risk Assessment or have an A1C reading of 5.7-6.4.
